When it comes to problems with locks, whether on your doors or windows there are a number of things that you should look out for that might give you an early indication that it is time to think about either getting them cleaned or replaced.

Key not turning as easily – if you notice that the key in the lock is not turning as easily as it used to there may be some dirt and grime in the mechanism that needs to be cleaned out. You should gently blow some air into the lock and see whether this helps to dislodge any dirt.

Handle sticking – if your door or window handle is sticking this could be a sign that all is not well with the mechanism and you should in the first instance apply some oil to the working parts that you can see. It is also important to remember not to force the handles to close because you can cause further issues with the mechanism that could result in you not being able to open the door or window at all.
