How To Age Well

Lifestyle

In a society that celebrates youth, it can be hard to see anything good about getting old. However, reaching over 50 should be a milestone to celebrate. Unfortunately, the ageist media can make us despise getting older and forget how lucky we are. Living your life over 50 as if it is the start of the end is not healthy or useful for you or anybody. I will help you age well and see how this really is the start of your golden years, with some advice on how to age well.

Firstly, the key to ageing well must be what we eat. Eating a balanced diet of home-cooked meals, made with wholefoods and plant-based, should provide your body with all the nutrients it needs to prevent age-related illness.

There has been a big push in the media recently to get people to exercise, but often everything is focused on getting young people to go to gyms. Exercise does not have to be intense and vigorous to be beneficial. Walking daily and doing some strength training at home can be hugely beneficial. Swimming is also a great sport to exercise the whole body at once without too much impact.

Learning something new is a great way to promote healthy well-being, and help your brain stay active. Doing something that is creative is even more beneficial as it uses more of the brain than other less creative activities. Try learning an instrument, or join a choir, which is a good bonding activity due to the communal setting.

Lastly, having a community is essential to ageing well and living happily. Humans are not meant to be alone. Living in a park home, like one of the Gloucester Park Homes could be ideal if you don’t already have a community you feel you belong to. There are so many Gloucester park homes to choose from so take your time to find which one is your dream home.
