Making St Patrick a Saint.

Travel

Today he is one of the most well known Saints in all the world and his Patron day of the 17th is one of the most widely observed, albeit not in the most strictly religious ways (although he is reputed to have enjoyed a drink himself). You too can join in the fun by donning a Mens Aran Sweaters such as you can get from Shamrock Gift . How did this great man become a Saint in the first place?

What seems clear is that he was the son of a Roman British family, not an Irishman. And on his way to becoming a Saint, he experienced some amazing adventures. Around 375 AD, St Patrick was possibly born in Scotland. He lived with his parents, Calpurnius and Conchessa, for the first 16 years of his life, before being captured by pirates and sold into slavery in Ireland. The young man discovered his religious calling and adopted the name Patrick, becoming fluent in the Irish language. Whilst tending to some sheep He had a dream, as he prayed to God for help, that a ship would be waiting to help him escape back to Britain.

Patrick escaped and returned to his parents’ home and then travelled to Europe for a short time. But his thoughts kept returning to Ireland, and he replied to the call when he had a dream that the Irish were calling him to come to them and show them the ways of the Lord.

He returned with the blessings of the Pope and began to convert and educate the Irish people.
