Some of the Different Plots you can Build on

Home Improvement

When it comes to building a house of your own, many people don’t realise that one of the most difficult parts is finding a plot of land to build on. With land in the UK fairly scarce, and in high demand, it is unlikely that you are just going to stumble across the perfect plot of land, and will most likely need to do a little bit extra to get the plot that is right for you.

Looking online, speaking to people who have experience building their own homes, and using planning maps such as these https://www.themapshop.co.uk/planning_application_maps.htm is a good place to start when it comes to plot hunting.

Here are some of the different types of plot that may help you to broaden your search a little…

Infill Plots – These are usually plots that are in a gap between buildings. It is best to check planning permission though as it isn’t automatically guaranteed just because it is a gap in the street.

Brownfield Land – This is land that has previously been used for things such as factories, or builders merchants – as it is often industrial land, make sure that land is not contaminated, if it is you will need to get the land made safe before you build.

Serviced Plots – This is a great way to get a perfect plot, but as you will be working with a developer on a custom build home rather than a self-build home, you may not get as much control over the design process and there may be more limitations.
