A 1970s film festival

Reviews

If you were to hold a film festival based on films purely from the 1970s which ones would you choose?  suffice to say the only way that you’re going to be able to show the films in any decent standard is by looking to have a nice big screen to display them on.  The 1970s were a time when filming became slightly alternative and gave Maverick directors the opportunity to really  show their talents.  money became available from Hollywood and special effects took on new levels. Only a Home Cinema Installation Essex way or anywhere else for that matter can show case these trailblazers.

Pat Garret and Billy the Kid 1973 Directed by Sam Peckinpah. The Western as a genre was starting to Wain by the 1970s but it was given a  much needed boost with the work of Peckinpah. He has already reset the Western with The Wild Bunch but this gritty and dirty revisionist film of the Cowboy was to set the new tone.

Jaws. Steven Speilberg;s first major blockbuster success, the tale of a vengeful Shark causing havoc in the sea around Amityville is an iconic film of the period.

Star Wars: A New Hope. If you only ever watch one Star Wars film, make it this one. Spielberg’s friend and part mentor George Lucas began a franchise to end all others and a great popcorn muncher of a movie too.

The Godfather I and II. In his usual visceral style ( Apocalypse Now would also be on this list) Francis Ford Coppola brings the novel of Mario Puzo vividly to the screen.
