How to use bending machines safely

Reviews

Bending machines are used in various industries to bend metal profiles and sheets. Sheet metal is the most versatile and easiest to bend, but metal tubes or pipes and sections can also be bent on many machines.

Products that are made via this process include gates, ventilation systems, railings, and electrical towers. Additionally, many components are made by bending, including sections of ships, trains, turbines, wind towers, and more.
Types of bending machine

There are two main categories of bending machines: mechanical, and hydraulic. Mechanical bending machines utilise a motor to control the plunger inside, whilst hydraulic bending machines apply pressure using hydraulics in order to force the plunger down.

Some common types of bending machines include metal sheet bending machines, roll bending machines, folding machines, rotary stretch benders, and incremental benders.

High-quality bending machines

Euromac bending machines are widely regarded as some of the best bending machines available. Their horizontal bending machines are easy to program and operate and can accept a range of tools. This combination enables production costs to be kept low.

For more information on Euromac bending machines, there are a number of specialist firms with online resources for your perusal, such as the examples seen here: www.cotswold-machinery-sales.co.uk/euromac-bending-machines/horizontal-bending-machines/.

How do you use a bending machine safely?

Before starting to bend the metal, you should make sure that you have read the instructions and have a good understanding of the process. The operative and those nearby must be wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) before operating bending equipment.

The machine’s electrical connections and wires need to be checked to make sure that they are secure, free from oil or dirt, and not near water. Hydraulic fluid levels should also be checked (where relevant) before starting, and you should ensure that the machine is well-lubricated.

Prior to switching the machine on, make sure that the workspace is clutter-free and that only the minimum number of people are near the machine.

You can then select the appropriate bending option from the bending machine, insert the material and press the “start” button.
