Animals.

Sadly, animals have been found in drains all over the world and have had to be rescued. They range from wildlife such as hedgehogs and rats, to cats, dogs and even cows. Some of the more terrifying examples include snakes.

False Teeth, Retainers and Braces.

It is all too easy for false teeth, braces and retainers to slip down the drain with all the cleaning they require. Unsurprisingly, when unblocking drains, these items are commonly found caught up in the debris. If you require a drain survey or jetting, companies such as www.wilkinson-env.co.uk/drainage-services-cctv-surveys-midlands/drain-jetting/drain-jetting-kingsbury will be able to assist.

Items of clothing.

Although it is not entirely obvious how they would get into a drain, it is relatively common to find items of clothing, including underwear. If you are looking for CCTV drainage surveys in Kingsbury, you can be assured that discretion will be maintained, no matter what is uncovered!

Gold.

We cannot imagine anyone depositing gold in the drains on purpose, but imagine the surprise for those unblocking them.

Alligators.

In the USA, alligators are a surprising find in the drains. In 2007, a giant 20-foot gator was found by Texas officials in a storm drain.

Tennis balls.

We can only assume that the tennis balls rolled accidentally into an external drain, but nevertheless, their fleece coating can see them to stick to the walls of the drain and cause a blockage.

How you can prevent a blockage.

According to recommendations by the Consumer Council for Water it is important that food waste is scraped into the bin before washing plates and for grease to be allowed to cool and either scraped into the bin or soaked up with a sheet of kitchen towel. Fats that are allowed to go down the drains will solidify and cause a blockage.

It is also important that sanitary towels, nappies, wipes and condoms are disposed of correctly and not flushed down the toilet. Home drains are normally no more than 100mm wide, making them very easy to block.
