Tips for looking after your fridge

Home Improvement

As with any appliance over time, wear and tear will eventually require you to replace or repair your fridge. You can slow this down by taking some simple steps.

If you have had your refrigerator for more than 10 years, there is a chance that it will need to be replaced. It’s less about any mechanical problems it may have and more about its energy efficiency. Recent improvements in energy efficiency have helped to reduce household energy costs.

If your fridge was manufactured before 1992, when the Energy Star rating was introduced, it could be using twice as much energy as a more recent model. This is bad for both your energy bills as well as the environment. For an Integrated Fridge Freezer, visit wellingtonshomeelectrical.co.uk/refrigeration/fridge-freezers/integrated-built-in.html

Don’t overfill your fridge

If you only have a few things in your fridge, it will use less energy to keep them cool. Items in your refrigerator absorb cold air, which helps to keep everything cool.

Don’t overload it, as it will affect its performance. By cramming in a lot of stuff, the fridge is unable to circulate cool air and has to work more. It’s a bit like overloading your dishwasher or washing machine. The water cannot get around the object if there is not enough space.

The fridge’s pressure can cause the compressor, fan and other components to be overworked. This means that you will be spending more money on energy. Energy consumption = money spent.

Even if the door is only slightly open, it can have a negative impact on your fridge’s internal temperature. The warmer air will make it difficult for your fridge to maintain a cool temperature.

It is important to fix it as soon as possible if the door is faulty.
