Walking the Wicklow Way

Travel

The Wicklow way is the ultimate walk in Ireland. Encompassing vast parts of the stunning landscape, it is easy to see why it is one of the most popular walking trails in Ireland. At 130km long it is not one for novice walkers, but it is one of the most rewarding and beautiful walks that any walker can complete.

You will need all the right equipment such as appropriate footwear and waterproofs. As for a hiking backpack Ireland based shop https://basecamp.ie/ has got you covered. Once you have everything you need you are ready to make the long walk across the Wicklow way.

Starting at the North of the trail, just south of Dublin, you will walk your way further south to the end at Clonegal in County Carlow. The first part of the trail in the North is the more mountainous part, so this will be the most strenuous part, as the ground flattens out more towards the south.

However, the mountainous region, though taxing is not to be missed as it has some spectacular scenery on offer. See the beautiful Glencullen river as you hike towards Prince William’s seat. See the Powerscourt waterfall and if you are lucky some of the local residents of the deer park!

Further south, heading through Moyne take in the beautiful hedgerows and wildflowers as well as the Raheenakit forest where the trail is much easier and less hilly than the earlier part!
